Would You Like to Help Us Improve Our Website? We Need Your Input

Over the upcoming week, we’ll be inviting some of our upgraded members to talk with us on the phone and to do screen-sharing to help us see what elements of the present website design are important to keep and change.  If you are an upgraded member and would like to spend 20-30 minutes talking with us about the website, we will reimburse you with an additional week added to your upgraded membership.  Just contact us using our contact/feedback form.  We are especially interested if you have the latest version of skype installed (it allows screen sharing) but even if you do not have that program and just want to participate, just let us know your timezone, phone number, and a good time to contact you.

New “My Matches” Feature Launched

We’ve now finished our first version of our “Weekly Email Matches” and set it to send all members weekly matches by email.  If you prefer to receive an email of your latest matches more often or less often – or even turn it off completely – you can easily modify your preferences by logging in to your account and clicking on “Edit My Settings” from the left-hand menu.  At the bottom of the list of settings is the setting for the My Matches mail.  If you are not receiving your matches, please make sure that your email address in our system is up-to-date, and also add our email addresses into your address book.

Each mailing will include a few of the most recent members to join, as well as a few members who may not be active on the site any more.  You can click on any of the pictures from the email to go directly to the profile on christian-filipina.com.  And if you’re logged in to christian-filipina.com you’ll immediately see the links to wink and send messages.  Don’t be shy.  Go ahead and contact any members.  Just start a simple conversation in a message, or just send a wink.  There’s no time better than the present to say hello.

As always, if you have any suggestions or comments of any kind, feel free to let us know.

Hi,

It’s Jen from Christian Filipina. It’s been a while since I’ve written (sorry!). We’re happy to announce that we now have over ten thousand members on Christian Filipina. Have you visited recently and introduced yourself to any new members?

picture of many people

We are happy to share with you that we have reduced our prices for our two most popular plans for the holiday season. We are also offering a special for returning members – if you have previously been an upgraded member with us, and you upgrade again at the same level of service, we will double your membership time as our holiday gift to you! Just write to us after you upgrade and request the returning-member double-time. Not a returning member but still hoping for an additional discount? We also offer a 50% time bonus to military, former

military, ordained, students, and those in financial difficulties. Simply sign up and email us after to request your extra 50% (which cannot be combined with any other offer).

And finally, we want to tell you that we are working on a video chat program that will work within our site for all upgraded members to chat with their chat mates using webcam. If you are an upgraded member and would like to help us with our pre-release testing, please reply to this email.

Please let us know how you are doing this November. We love to hear from you.

Jen and Pete,

5,000 Members!

This was a letter we sent to all our members on September 1, 2009

Hi,

We’re happy to announce that we now have five thousand members!  Have you visited recently to have the chance to meet some of the new members who have joined?  There are dozens of new members joining per day.  Why not visit and take the chance to wink at your favorite new members, or send them a brief hello?  It’s free to send friendly messages (although we do ask that if you are ready to share contact details with another member, that you upgrade your membership at that time)

In celebration of this milestone, we have setup up a special membership offer.  As always, when you upgrade your membership, you are allowed to send and receive contact details in your personal messages.  What we offer as a special this week is a double time promotion.  Our most popular membership level, gold, ($59.99) is usually a 3-month membership – but if you upgrade to gold this week, it is a 6-month membership!  Likewise, our next most popular option, Silver ($29.99) is 2 months instead of 1 month.  Our other membership options (1 day, 1 week, and 1 year) are all also doubled.

So don’t hesitate – if you’ve been thinking of upgrading, this is your chance!  This special offer is valid for this week only!

I also want to follow up with you about the email I had sent a week ago regarding scammers.  We have had a few reports of scammers on the site.  We have been actively following up to immediately suspend any members who violate our terms of service, which includes asking for money.  It’s a definite no-no!  We did create a separate web page called the Scammer Hall of Fame - where you can read about our recent “petrochemical engineer” who turned out to be a Nigerian fraudster!  We’re ashamed and sorry about it, but we think it’s best to be upfront with our members.  You have to be cautious, even on a Christian site.  Use your common sense.  If you have any questions or witness strange behavior, please email me or write back using the feedback link on every page of the site.

If you’ve forgotten your password, you can retrieve it at http://christian-filipina.com/forgotpass.php and then sign in.  You can also tell your friends about the site by clicking on the “Invite a Friend” link on the home-page, or just click here.

See you at the site!

Jen,

Christian Filipina

Who Can I Trust? Examples From Scam Hall of Fame

Hi,

We had hoped that in our Christian site, that we would not have the same problems with persons who sought to take advantage of other persons.  Unfortunately, in our first year at Christian Filipina, we’ve found that with the success and popularity of our website, we’ve also attracted some dishonest persons.

masks - can you trust them?

What are some signs that you can't trust someone you've met online? When their stories constantly change but the stories all end with a request for your money.

While we believe almost all of our members are honest, we have decided to share with our members a few examples when we have learned of scam persons who have tried to defraud other members.  We also want to pass along to you the link to Dragonladies.org This is a site where you can read more accounts of internet scamming than you want to read.  We don’t have any relation to that site or know how much of the information is accurate, but we think it can be helpful to talk with others to be wise when getting to know people from a different culture. You might also learn from more general fraud-information sites like http://fraudgallery.com/, FraudAid , and http://www.scamletters.com/ .

On our own site, I will share with you two examples from August of 2009. The first was a scam by a person claiming to be a woman employed as a petrochemical engineer living in the United States and operating her own oil drilling company.  She signed up for the site and upgraded her account to a paid membership.  She then apparently sent an email to several site members, and some of those responded offline.  The men she responded with (in the two examples we heard about) thought something was fishy – especially when the woman seemed to have a male voice on the phone – and then found it especially strange when the woman came up with an elaborate scheme to donate supplies to the Philippines, which would require a western union payment from the man in order to release two suitcases of luggage containing these supplies.  Here is the fake receipt from the supposed shipping company in Nigeria:

We have received a confirmation letter from your fiancee Miss Kodrea Smith who insured and deposited some luggage in our custody. Deposit number. since the unexpected death of my beloved Parents.Meanwhile I wanted to escape
to anywhere i can have a good life but he hides away my international passport

country after the transfer.I am willing to offer you 20% of the total sum as
compensation of your effort and 5% for any other expence you made after a
successful transfer.

Thank you and God bless
Miss Sokona Nnam

Well, we are ashamed that it happened using our site, and we are going to try to keep our members up to date that they have to keep their common sense.  And please, as soon as you are suspicious of any member, report it immediately.  We will soon be installing a new feature to make reporting potential scam even easier, but for now you can easily use the Feedback Form link at the bottom of the page.

Remember, although these two extreme examples come from Africa, it’s also possible that a friend you meet on the site might ask for money even if she is a Filipina who is in your own denomination.  We have a strict rule against members soliciting money from other members.  Please report this behavior as soon as possible, and we will immediately suspend the violating member.  It doesn’t matter whether it’s bad teeth, dead caribou, school expenses, sick grandmother, etc, it’s simply inappropriate, and it’s a violation of our terms of service.

We do value you as members of the site.  We’re sorry that we have had to relay this information.  Remember, don’t send money to anyone you meet online who you have never met in person!

Have a great day.  Take your time to meet new friends.  When you have a chance, take a trip to meet friends in person and learn about a new culture.  Let me know if you have any comments or questions, by using the feedback link at the bottom of the page.

God bless you all.

Almost 1,000 Members

This was a letter we sent to all our members on June 19, 2009

Hi,

We’re happy to announce that after just four months of basic publicity, we now have over nine hundred members. Have you visited recently to have the chance to meet some of the new members who have joined recently? This week we will surely have our 1,000th member, as we now have almost two hundred new members joining weekly.

We would like to take this chance to let you know about a few upcoming developments and ask for feedback.

First of all, we’re continuing to upgrade our message filtering system. As you know from reading our FAQ, we do allow free members to send messages to other members. However, we do not allow free members to send contact information or to post contact information in their personal profiles. (Members who have upgraded their accounts can send personal contact information, because upgraded accounts bypass the filtering system.) We’ll be continuing over the next few months fo work out the bugs in the filtering system.

Second, we’ll be increasing our membership fees at the end of June to $30 per month for silver membership and $60 per 3 months for gold membership. If you sign up before July 1, you can still sign up at the very affordable rate of $15 for silver or $30 for gold. Our signup payments (using credit card, bank account or paypal account) go through paypal.com, so your credit card information is 100% secure, backed by one of the top payment processors on the internet, and it is backed by Paypal’s guarantees, as well as ours. We don’t handle the credit card information in any way on any of our systems: that’s all handled through the multinational, multi-billion-dollar Paypal, #1 payment processor on the internet.

Finally, please send us your suggestions about the website. How well does the website work in your browser? What do you wish we could add to the website? Is all the text on the website legible? Do you have any questions about the website? Just send your email to us using the feedback form.

You can find the feedback form link at the bottom of our home-page christian-filipina.com. We will select the user who sends us the most helpful feedback for a free silver membership.

If you’ve forgotten your password, you can retrieve it at http://christian-filipina.com/forgotpass.php and then sign in. You can also tell your friends about the site by clicking on the “Invite a Friend” link on the home-page.

Feel free to offer any suggestions to us that you have about the site. Don’t be too shy to wink at new members or write them a short note about yourself. This might be just the chance you’ve been waiting for!

Jen,

Christian Filipina

Guide For Gentlemen

Welcome, gentlemen, to Christian Filipina.stick picture of man thinking

I’d like to invite you to join our website to correspond with sincere Christian Filipinas. We help you to become friends and pen pals. If it later grows to something more, that’s all between you directly.

The Philippines is the one predominantly Christian country in Asia, and one of the biggest English-speaking countries in the world. And of the eighty million who live here in the Philippines, all are devoted to family. If you are devoted to God and family, this might be just the chance you have been waiting for to find a friend and partner.

I’d like to explain how this website works.

Ladies and gentlemen are both welcome to join as free members and to correspond with one another. However, free members are not allowed to exchange contact details. If you do get to the point where you would like to exchange contact details, we ask that you upgrade your membership to Silver (one month) or Gold (three months). Our modest fees help us to support the development and maintenance of this service.

Because many of our gentlemen might be corresponding with a Filipina for the first time, we suggest that you take your time, and ask any questions that come up through our contact form.

If you have any questions or suggestions for us, please feel free to contact us with the contact form.

Now please visit our signup registration page, and start contating other members!

Guide For Ladies

Welcome, ladies, to Christian Filipina. I invite you to post your profiles here and correspond with our Christian gentlemen members.

I’d like to offer you a few suggestions:

You are welcome to post a profile of yourself. Although you are not required to post a photo, it is certain that posting a photo will help your profile stand out from the many others posted on the site. We do require that photos be conservative and true.

You are also welcome to fill out your complete online profile. When you are logged-in, you can do this by choosing “Edit My Profile” from the menu. Then, you can fill out the main page, and also use the blue tabs to select “Edit Additional Information”. Don’t forget to save your changes with the “submit” button.

Finally, you are invited to send messages to other members with whom you would like to correspond. Don’t be shy: just write a short message to introduce yourself. We do have guidelines for the content of your messages:

You may not send personal contact information (phone number, email, etc) unless you upgrade your membership to Silver or Gold.

You may not attempt to solicit money through our message system.

We do, however, invite you over time to send as many messages as you would like (with a daily limit of three messages per “Free” user). When you or your chat mate is ready to exchange contact details, one or the other of you can upgrade your membership, and upgraded members are allowed to send contact information through our personal message system.

If you have any questions or suggestions for us, please feel free to contact us with the contact form.

Now please visit our signup registration page, and start contating other members!
